Can Success Be Sped Up? …by Jack Canfield

This was recently shared with me by my newest team member, and I thought it was so good, I wanted to share it with all of you. This is a great way to start your week! Enjoy!

Can success be sped up?

Is there an antidote to slow outcomes despite arduous planning and actions taken? What’s the secret for seeing huge results right now?!

I get versions of these questions frequently from people who feel frustrated at sluggish progress in their success journey – despite all the know-how and principles they rigorously employ.

Let’s get one thing straight…

When we admire someone’s success, or even our own, we often focus on the end result and not so much on the effort (and time) that it took to get there. This can cultivate unrealistic expectations, especially the idea that overnight success can happen through careful strategy and an execution of sound advice.

The truth be told, success typically follows a series of little events and achievements that can seem to take an eternity, that include a few disappointments along the way, and that challenge everything about you to the core – your stamina, courage, integrity, and even your willingness to keep going.

If you focus on what’s not working, guess what: You’re likely coming from a place of aggravation as your mind wraps around all that is wrong.

You may even have negative thoughts like “I’m not good enough,” “It will never work,” or “Something must be wrong with me.”

What this mentally does is engender more of these counter-productive feelings. And given what we know about the Law of Attraction, you attract what you are feeling. So negative experiences, people, and results will beget more negative experience, people, and results. There’s not much success in that!

The key is to focus on what IS working.

To do so, I recommend two simple practices: journaling and meditation.

Maintaining a journal (I call it an Evidence Log, Results Journal, or Gratitude Journal) is a great way to steer your attention to the positive and continually renew your vision for yourself.

Start each day with reflections on what you are grateful for in your life (list them out!) and end each day with notes on what went right (again, write them down), however small they may seem.

Spend time each day in quiet contemplation, prayer or meditation.

Meditation can be a powerful tool for arriving at solutions to problems and shifting your attitude so you can attract success sooner rather than later. The magic of meditation is its ability to essentially shut down the outer layer of your judgmental, highly-critical brain and allow your unconscious mind to take over. This is where you enter a deeper state of inner peace and joy, tapping into a higher level of creativity that will help usher in the results you want. (Don’t know how to meditate? Lots of books and materials are available to guide you through this practice. It’s easier than you think. )

Let’s say you’re doing ALL these things, but you still aren’t happy with your results…

I’ll ask you then, are you taking real ACTION?

You may be taking the actions you are used to taking. But if you keep doing what you’ve already done, then you’ll keep getting what you’ve always gotten. It’s a matter of practicing some new behaviors. Shake things up a bit and see if you can take new actions or modify existing ones.

Remember the Rule of 5.

Every day do five specific things that take you toward your goal. Change up the five actions regularly and be open to feedback so you know when you’re off course.

Lastly, I want to remind you about patience.

It’s natural to underestimate how long a certain goal can take, especially a profound one. When I set a goal to become a millionaire, the year was 1983. How long did it take? Eleven years. It took time for Chicken Soup for the Soul to hit the bestseller lists. You could say our tenure on the New York Times list was more than a decade in the making. That’s a lot of patience for someone who initially wanted overnight success.

So, yes, patience is a virtue. But keep at it, and in no time, you’ll be only one week, or one day away from your ultimate success.

Remember… be GRATEFUL, reflect on what IS working and continue to take ACTION!

My Picture Plus 2.0 Addiction…

Well, I am sure some of you may be wondering where the heck I have been for  the last month!  My family just completed (or should I say, is STILL completing) a HUGE move to a new home.  So that is the main reason why I haven’t written a post in a month.

The other reason, I have to confess, is because I am TOTALLY addicted to sending cards with Send Out Cards’ newest product, Picture Plus 2.0!!!  Seriously, I can’t tear myself away from this thing.  Just when I thought SOC couldn’t get any better, they not only released this amazing new product, but also increased our compensation!!!  So needless to say, we have been dancing over here the last few weeks!

So here’s the rundown in case you have been living under a rock and haven’t seen all my Facebook posts:

On July 19th, SOC launched Picture Plus 2.0 – taking card editing to a whole new level!  You can now:

  • SPAN your photo across the entire 2- or 3-panel card (my personal fav!)
  • Rotate photos and text
  • Layer photos on photos
  • Add elements and templates
  • Add TEXT to the front of a SOC catalog card (another fav!)
  • Program the FRONT of a card with the recipient’s first name (GREAT for campaigns to multiple people)
  • Add borders, captions, thought bubbles and voice bubbles (and rotate them!)

As of July 1st, 2010, Send Out Cards had printed over 268,000 Picture Plus 2.0 cards on their I-Gen printers! That was just since the launch of the new product on June 19th!!!

People are going nuts over this product – this is all about celebrating the lives of those we care about now, by creating beautiful cards with photos and words.  The fact that we are able to create such a professional, high-quality product, from our own computer at our convenience, for .62/card, just BLOWS MY MIND!!! I have sent copies of these cards to myself, and I am astonished at how incredible they look.

If you are a business owner, the possibilities are endless! This new program adds so much pizzazz to your appreciation marketing campaigns, and your customers will NOT forget you if they receive one of these cards.  Send these creative, colorful, vibrant, and unique cards to your clients and watch your business soar! Now, on to compensation. We get paid even more money for doing the same things we have always done! Now that is FUN!  Starting with a brand-new distributor – they earn more money right out of the gate. SOC also created two brand-new web pages and a new Opportunity Video to share with others. As an Entrepreneur, you receive these two web pages FREE (most companies charge, on average, $25/month for these sites). You now have a Retail Storefront, which is valuable for those who want to send a card at a time, without signing up for an account. They can also send gifts on this page. Retail cards can be sent for $2.99 per card (including postage!!), and YES, you earn a commission on all cards and gifts sent from your retail site.

The new Opportunity Page you receive is where you direct those that are interested in learning about the income opportunity with SOC. This is also where they send a free card, and learn about the new account options.  This page is much cleaner, simpler, and a breeze to share with others.  The tools just got a lot simpler (was that even possible?) and you can start sharing it immediately after you get started!

With all of us becoming so addicted to this amazing new product, we started a Facebook page – check us out at Support Group for Picture Plusaholics!  What fun we are having sharing our ideas, our enthusiasm, and seeing great examples of how life is being celebrated through cards, gifts, and the written word. There are also some fantastic business communication examples on this page.

With the launch of the new products, the SOC staff never anticipated how much volume their site would receive – it was busier than their busiest day during Christmas 2009!  They installed 4 new servers and increased the bandwidth, and now things are smooth sailing!  So, for about a week, we put up with some slow speeds, and getting kicked off a time or two.  But like Kody B says, “first comes the pain, then the pleasure!”  Things are rockin’ and rollin’ now!

Duplication is the key!

So many people in our industry (network marketing) who are trying to build a large organization don’t understand the power of duplication.  One of the biggest mistakes new people make when enrolling in their opportunity is that they try to do too much, and they over complicate the process.  They try to learn everything and anything they can about their product,  in the hopes of becoming an expert.  (I wasted time on this myself!)

On one hand, this is good, since you want to be seen as knowledgeable and credible by your audience.  But, if you put on a huge dog-and-pony show, complete with a hotel ballroom, overheads, flip charts, and a two-hour power point presentation, your audience will be overwhelmed.  They may be impressed by your eloquence and your lack of fear while speaking in public, but when it comes time for them to share the opportunity with THEIR peeps, they will think “I can never do what so-and-so did.”  They may not be as comfortable speaking before large groups of people as you are, or even small ones.  They may think that since they aren’t an expert on the product, they can’t deliver as convincing a message as you did.  Without you knowing, you sabotaged your success because your message wasn’t duplicatable.

Every single thing you do sets an example for what others think THEY will be required to do.  When speaking with your prospects about your opportunity, you always want to ask yourself “is this so simple that an 8-year old could understand this?” or “Could a janitor deliver this message as well as a lawyer could?”

To be able to answer “yes” to these questions means that you have to use the tools that your company provides.  Don’t let your mouth do the talking – let the tools do it.  These tools were created for the sole purpose of making the message easy enough and simple enough for everyone to be able to do it. That is what is so cool about our industry – it evens the playing field for EVERYONE to succeed if they truly want to.  It doesn’t matter WHAT you say because you are letting the TOOLS do everything for you – the message is the same every time, no matter who delivers it.

But, what you do have to bring to the table, is your testimonial.  This is where HOW you say it matters.  When you talk about what the product, the company, or the service has done for you, your life, your bank account, and you are sincere about it, then your prospect will be attracted to your genuineness and your enthusiasm.  This is what will make them want to review the tool you have given to them.

They then might want to partner with you in the business because they are attracted to your leadership, your magnetism, your overall personality.  But the fundamentals of the message will always be the same –  no matter who shares the message.  The beauty of having a duplicatable system at your fingertips means that the very same person you just got started in your business can turn around and immediately do the same thing.

Of course, as a leader, you are always there to help, encourage, uplift, and support your business partners.  But they won’t feel like they have to learn everything you know right off the bat, and they will be off to the races much faster! This is the key to growing a large organization much more quickly – KEEP IT SIMPLE! USE THE TOOLS!

A business of belief…

I read something the other day that really struck me about the business of network marketing.  This is a business of belief. No matter how excited and enthusiastic you may be when you begin your business venture, you most likely won’t be successful unless you have certain beliefs.  You have to have a belief in yourself, a belief in others, a belief in your company and its product/service, and a belief in the industry.  If you don’t have a strong belief in all of these areas, then you will get knocked down too easily when the going gets rough.  You will want to throw in the towel if you experience rejection or have bad days.Your enthusiasm may start off at a 10, but with a couple of rejections, your excitement starts to wane, and you begin to wonder if this is right for you.

So it is crucial to build this belief in order to have a thriving, successful business that will lead you to your dreams of financial freedom.  Anything you can do to build that belief is going to increase your chance of success and will keep you in for one more day, until you start making money.

How do you build belief?  Use your company’s products!  Nothing is stronger than your own story and testimonial. Be a product of the product, and be excited about it (that is, if you are)! People will be attracted to your sincerity and genuine passion for the service or product.

Listen to audiotapes every time you get in your car – have a mobile university at your fingertips.  Use that time driving to and from your J.O.B. to enhance your skills, learn from the masters, and gain valuable information about the industry.  Read personal development books – I highly recommend “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson.  Attract what you want in your life by becoming better at what you do and who you are.

Be on your company’s conference calls!  Plug into the company’s system that is there to help you be successful.  With Send Out Cards, get on Jordan’s Monday night calls, or listen to the recordings if you miss it.  There is extremely valuable information that will help you get started the right way.  Don’t try to recreate the wheel – he has done it and is a huge success, so listen to what he tells you to do!   Plug into the corporate SOC TV every other Thursday night to learn what is new with the company, and to be kept in the loop on system enhancements.  Most importantly, go to the events! Send Out Cards has regional and national events, local meetings, Treat ‘Em Right seminars, etc that allow you the opportunity to learn the company’s mission, be a part of their culture, and meet the top leaders who are achieving huge financial success. Build your belief in the industry by subscribing to Networking Times, reading books on network marketing, and talking to others in and outside of your company that have obtained financial freedom through the vehicle of network marketing. I recommend getting started learning about the industry with “The Business of the 21st Century” by Robert Kiyosaki.  Learn how a skeptic to the industry now believes in this incredible business model to achieve wealth.  If you aren’t already in network marketing, you may want to be after you read this book!

Building your belief by doing these things is KEY to making it in this business. No matter what happens in the course of your day, if you have strong beliefs in yourself, those you lead, the industry you are involved in, and your company’s product/service, then nothing will stop you from making it to the top!

An inspirational success story…

What an awesome time we had this past weekend at the CO Super Saturday!  Our very own Jordan Adler, the top income-earner in Send Out Cards, came out to Denver to share his success stories and business-building advice.  There were over 500 people in attendance – quite a jump from the 50 attendees we had 6 months ago!  The CO Send Out Cards team is growing quickly, and we have an amazing group of people.

We had a mixer Friday night with Jordan at Baker St. Pub, and what a great opportunity it was for new reps to meet him, as well as many other SOC reps.  Something really cool happened to me that night, and it just reaffirmed for me how I am truly in the perfect business.

A woman I didn’t know came up to me and told me that I had said something at one of our past events that really impacted her.  My husband, Matt, and I spoke at our regional Send Out Cards meeting in February, and this woman and her husband were present that day.  Matt and I spoke about what we thought were the most important steps in building an SOC business. We shared our story of how we got involved, and how it has impacted our lives. One thing I said that day (which I had heard from Jordan a while back) was to “never quit on a bad day.”  I went on to say that we all have days where we want to throw in the towel, where we want to quit, when we feel frustrated.  This is true in any business; it’s the nature of life.  But I made it a point to say that you never want to quit on a bad day.  You have to push forward, and keep going, because if you just wait a day or two or three, your perspective will change and things will be positive once again.  We all have obstacles and challenges in our business – this is what makes it exciting!  The key is to learning how to overcome them, and move forward so that you can achieve your dreams. If your “why” is big enough and compelling enough, NOTHING can stop you!

This woman shared with me that she and her husband had attended the event that day not yet signed up with Send Out Cards.  They were investigating their options, and not sure which way to go.  She told me that what I said that day – just a casual, simple little concept I talked about – was her “a-ha” moment and for whatever reason, it struck her and motivated her and her husband to sign up to build a SOC business, and to achieve their dreams of financial and time freedom.

That event was February 13th, and the night she told me this at our mixer on May 7th, she and her husband were celebrating their first rank advancement to Manager!!!  It made my day, my week, my month to hear her inspirational story and I was so proud to know that I played a part in her and her husband’s decision to join SOC – no matter how small.

This is why I am involved with this business – it is truly about helping, inspiring, and motivating others to reach their potential and achieve greatness.  Realizing how her story made me feel, I once again reflected on how blessed I am to have found this incredible opportunity with Send Out Cards!

What do you say in your cards?

I get asked all the time “What do you say in the cards you send to people?”  This question seems to be a fairly common one, actually, that is asked of many seasoned Send Out Cards Entrepreneurs by newbies.  It also is a question that makes me laugh, because people are always trying to complicate everything.  This business, as Jordan Adler likes to say, “is so simple that an 8-year old can do it.”  If an 8-year old can’t explain it, then you are making it way too complicated.

I don’t have a “script”.   The beauty of this business is that I can say what’s on my mind and what’s on my heart at any given moment, by typing it into a card.  If I think someone may be interested in using Send Out Cards as a business communication tool to boost their bottom line, then that is what I say.  If I know a stay-at-home mom who is trying to make ends meet with her current job, and isn’t cutting it, then I let her know I may have a solution for her.  If I know a successful network marketer who is researching a new home-based business opportunity, then I tell that person about the SOC opportunity in a card.  What I say to each person is different, depending on what their needs are.

If you are trying to “sell” Send Out Cards, then you need to find something else to do.  It is all about taking a genuine interest in the person you are talking to, finding out their situation, and learning how you can possibly help them. If you are trying to read a script to someone, or have a canned speech memorized, that will turn them off immediately (no matter what business you are in).  People can sense desperation.  Just be yourself, be genuine, and really care about what that person is telling you.

Last night on the call someone asked about what we do in non-holiday times.  Folks, even though this business is a greeting card business, that doesn’t mean we only work around the holidays!  Like DeMarr said at his seminar a few weeks ago, this company will NEVER lose its luster, because the product is a personal, heartfelt greeting card, as well as  unique gifts.  People will never get tired of receiving a sincere greeting card in their mailbox, with photos of their grandkids, or a Starbucks gift card. Better yet, they won’t ever complain of receiving an unexpected box of gourmet brownies along with that card!

We don’t just send cards during the obligatory holidays.  People EXPECT a birthday card (unless they are your client, then it really surprises them), they EXPECT the yearly holiday card, they EXPECT a Mother’s Day card, a Father’s Day card, an anniversary card, etc.  What they DON’T expect, however, are the “Just Because” cards from their kids expressing a heartfelt sentiment, the humorous card from the dog apologizing for pooping on the carpet, the “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me” card from their spouse.  We also send cards to uplift, inspire, motivate, and encourage.  These are not events that are dependent on a special holiday. SOC users send unexpected cards daily. The people in our lives deserve to be recognized, cheered on, appreciated, celebrated – EVERY SINGLE DAY!
